When do you call?

You can always call us if you are worried or have questions. In addition, there are a few situations where we would like you to call us.

Too early

If you are not yet 37 weeks pregnant and there are signs that the delivery has started, call us immediately!

Signs to call for:

• Loss of fluid from the vagina, which can be in a sudden gush or by continuously leaking small amounts, for example when standing up, moving, or after urinating.
• Bleeding
• Braxton Hicks contractions that come back regularly, for example every 10 minutes or more often.
• Cramps like during your period that become increasingly painful.
• Low or constant back pain
• Pressure in your pelvis, often you have this in combination with other things in this list.
• An increase in vaginal discharge, watery, mucous, or bloody.
• A feeling that “something” is not right.

Due date

If you are 37 weeks or further, different call instructions apply. Read them below.

Bleeding

If you have bleeding and it’s more than a sanitary pad full, we consider it too much bleeding and we would appreciate it if you call us. A small amount of bright red bleeding with some mucus is normal.

Contractions

First child
With regular contractions every 4 to 5 minutes for 1 hour, where the contraction lasts 1 minute.

Subsequent child
When contractions come every 5 minutes and you have to make an effort to handle them.

If your waters break

• We always want to know if your waters have broken. If it’s at night and it feels okay for you, you can call us around 8 o’clock in the morning.
• If the amniotic fluid is green or brown, you should always call us immediately. We will come to see you right away.
• If your baby has not yet dropped (we will tell you during the check-ups) and your waters break.
