It varies for each individual when the first menstruation occurs after a pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>If you breastfeed, your menstrual cycle may stay away longer than if you use bottle feeding. However, before your first menstruation, an ovulation has already taken place, which means that you are fertile again. Ovulation can occur as early as 4 to 6 weeks after delivery. It is impossible to estimate when ovulation occurs, as the moment of the first menstruation varies for everyone. If you do not want to become pregnant again in the short term or if it is advised not to become pregnant again in the first year, for example after a cesarean section, it is therefore wise to think about contraception. We will mention this during the postpartum period and discuss it with you if you need it. We will also discuss it during the follow-up appointment.
